Rare Pepe Punks is a remix and homage of two of crypto's most iconic characters: Pepe the Frog and CryptoPunks. It was created by award-winning artist and cryptoart pioneer, [Second Realm](https://twitter.com/secondrealm). These ERC-1155 tokens were released as free mints or airdrops. And became the de facto allowlist for the Unofficial Punks V2 drop.

[Unofficial Punks V1](https://opensea.io/collection/unofficialpunks) launched in February 2021 as an homage to the CryptoPunks and grew into an organic social movement known as the alt-punks. It is responsible for popularizing PFP project remixes and derivatives.

As far as NFT art goes The People’s Potato is a one-click moshed potato. It’s an intentionally low-effort, low-quality NFT. And that’s what makes this a fine piece of Trash Art.  But it’s so much more than that!

In July 2020 I minted one billion of these tokens and continue to sell them at 0,0001 ETH as an experiment to challenge the ideals of rarity and scarcity in cryptoart.  They will always remain at that price until all have sold.

It went on to to be shortlisted for the most innovative NFT in 2020 and eventually received The People’s Choice Award.
